Original caption: "The passing storm has cleared the air: Big Dipper points towards Anak Krakatau in eruption, exactly north of Palau Rakata. The pole star is almost exactly behind the volcano, but just under the horizon."
Update: The picture below from NASA Earth Observatory was acquired July 7, 2009 and shows this same eruption from NASA's Earth Observing-1 satellite.
